The No- Makeup Look
What is it with fashion and constantly looking ahead? Spring is finally here and every fashion lover who once had Balenciaga’s futuristic bloom prints etched on their consciousness, has now discarded them as a faint memory. The future is already focused on what winter has to offer and for beauty it’s pretty transparent. The notorious and somewhat legendary "no-make-up" look has once again been resurrected for the darker months. Make-up artist extraordinaire Charlotte Tilbury claimed, “nothing "make-up" is over, there has to be the point of interest.” Apparently now the point of interest is simply beauty. Burberry Prorsum referenced the grim north of England as make-up inspiration and amalgamated it in the most extraordinary way; depicting the likes of Lily Donaldson and Liu Wen without even a lick of mascara, yet looking more beautiful than they ever did during the whole fashion month. Take a tip from a real professional, Supermodel face painter Pat McGrath: ‘So it’s about the radiant skin, small amount of blush on the cheeks…fresh and matte that’s what were doing for this season.’ Who knows with a little practice you may end up by December resembling Chanel Iman at the A/W Stella McCartney show.
Introducing… the facial sheath
Everyone has days where they feel less fabulous than the day before and sometimes even a bag full of Mac products still can’t help the sad face looking back at you in the mirror. As the no make-up trend has been reintroduced for this coming autumn, another trend has been created, one a little more bizarre. Giles Deacon renowned for his love of the macabre, (remember those dead Bambi prints of Spring/Summer 08) has done it again and has given women the most unique way of covering up an unwanted blemish, dark circles under the eyes or even a hangover…welcome fashion’s most avant-garde beauty solution: the facial sheath. Debuted by Deacon during February’s London fashion week a model appeared decked out in an olive green creation, studded footwear and the look was completed with a sheer black fabric wrapped over the face. Marc Jacobs created a similar look in New York but his sheer sheath had a more romantic feel, as the chosen colour was white and feathers were added ensuring a more festive and less gothic aesthetic. The sheer facial sheath could change the face of modern beauty for years to come, perhaps even replacing the ubiquitous baseball-cap and large sunglasses as facial cover-ups? Instead simply grab your favourite sheer scarf wrap it over you face and prepare to face the public. Facial sheaths the chicest way to look rough this Autumn/Winter? Wait and see.
